In summer this is the gateway to the alpine lakes: Franklin Falls is an easy walk to a 70-foot waterfall, and Gold Creek Pond is a flat paved loop with the ridge reflected in it. In winter the pass carries four linked ski areas within an hour of a major city, which is unusual anywhere.
The pass is also the road to Leavenworth and to eastern Washington, so it is often scenery on the way to somewhere rather than the destination.
