Kerry Park
A small terrace on the south slope of Queen Anne that happens to hold the best composed view of any American city.
Kerry Park is barely a park — a strip of lawn and a railing donated to the city in 1927. What it has is alignment: the Space Needle sits in the middle distance, downtown stacks up behind it, Elliott Bay runs across the frame and, on a clear day, Mount Rainier fills the gap on the right. Nobody planned that. It just works.
It is a fifteen-minute stop and no more. Photograph it, look at it, get back in the van. The light is best in the hour before sunset; on a summer morning you are shooting into haze off the water.
