Olympic protects three separate worlds: temperate rainforest that takes twelve to fourteen feet of rain a year, an interior of glaciated peaks, and sixty miles of undeveloped Pacific coast. They are hours apart from each other.
In a single day from Seattle, Hurricane Ridge above Port Angeles plus Lake Crescent is the honest itinerary — a mile up, with the interior range across the valley, and one of the clearest lakes in the state on the way back. The Hoh is three hours each way before you walk anywhere; we will quote it, but we will recommend a night in Forks or Port Angeles first.

Worth knowing before you book

- Hurricane Ridge road closes in winter and after snow, and reopens on the park's schedule, not ours. We check it the night before.
- This is an eleven-hour day. It is not a cruise-day trip under any circumstances.
