Fremont Troll
Seattle's most photographed piece of public art, installed in 1990 to stop people fly-tipping under a bridge.
The Fremont Arts Council ran a competition to do something with the dead space under the north end of the Aurora Bridge. The winning entry was a troll — eighteen feet of steel-and-concrete, one hubcap eye, crushing a real Volkswagen Beetle in its left hand.
It takes ten minutes, everybody climbs on it, and it is genuinely one of the better things a city has ever done with a patch of nothing under a flyover.
